The reason for cutting down the list and setting a decision date for June 5th?
"Because I am wrapping up my junior year and I want to be fully dedicated to my senior season and don't want to worry about recruiting my senior season," Jones said.
The 6-4, 305-pound prospect cut down his list with intention and a lot of careful thought.
"Basically I narrowed down my list to the schools that I thought would benefit me the most," Jones said. "They are schools that I could see myself at and schools that I have the best relationship with their coaches."
The four-star hasn't visited Penn Stat yet, but he has built a good relationship with several of the coaches.
"Penn State they came out to me early, Coach Rahne and I have been speaking a lot. I got to speak with Coach Franklin a while back," Jones said. "They seem really genuine."
He added, "They have a good recruiting class coming in next year, and even though I haven't visited I would say that they are a team that can overcome things. And I love a team that can overcome adversity. Just because of everything that has gone on with them and where they have come from there."
And as for the process between now and June 5th, Jones isn't quite sure how it will go.
"I don’t know yet. it was tough narrowing it down to five, there were a lot of coaches telling me they hoped to see me in the top five. It’s a business kind of, if I could go to every school I would and it comes down to just where I feel the most comfortable. Who can support me the most academically," Jones said.
