LB Ferns Growing Closer to a Decision

The Ohio linebacker intends to make his college choice before the start of his senior season. Is Penn State in the mix?

As Penn State fans blow up message boards wondering what is going through four-star Ohio outside linebacker Brendan Ferns' mind during his recruitment process, Ferns has been relatively quiet about it all.

So FOS reached out to his father, Mike, for an update.

“As of right now, nothing new is happening in Brendan's recruitment,” the elder Ferns said. “The dead period honestly surprised us. The plan for him is he'll commit before his senior season.”

The NCAA's summer dead period for recruiting starts Monday and runs for two weeks. So once it is over, there will not be a whole lot of time for Ferns to make up his mind.

We asked his father if Brendan was planning on visiting for PSU's Lasch Bash July 18.

“Honestly, I'm not sure,” Mike Ferns said. “My gut would say yes.”

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound St. Clairsville senior-to-be has not mentioned any finalists, per se, but two schools to the East seem to be of interest to him.

“Right now he has no favorites,” Mike Ferns said. “I think he'll visit Penn State and West Virginia with his mother (after the dead period ends), then decide.”
