Berner Turns A Few Heads At PSU Camp

The Illinois Class of 2016 tight end is still awaiting his first major-college offer.

Jordan Berner, a senior-to-be from Chester (Ill.) High, is a new name to many Penn State fans.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end doesn't have any offers, but is garnering interest from Illinois, Southern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Minnesota and the Nittany Lions.

Berner caught the eyes of the Penn State coaches at Sunday's Elite Camp on campus.

“I had a really good experience,” he said. “The coaches didn't offer me, but they told me they would contact me in a few weeks.”

During the camp the staff showed interest in the tight end.

“They were giving me pointers while the camp was going on,” he said. “I felt the staff was pushing me harder than some of the other kids. Kind of seemed the staff showed more interest in me more than other (tight end) prospects at the camp.”

Berner didn't get to take a tour of the facilities, but noticed the weight room.

“Overall, I was impressed with the campus as a whole,” he said.

Berner said a return visit is possible if the staff shows more interest and/or offers him. He did say he was done with visits this summer.

His current top five includes Southern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Penn State. He has set no time frame for a decision.
