TyJuan Tries On A Penn State Offer

Virginia 2017 DE Garbutt’s Lasch Bash visit ended with some good news.

Penn State tossed its hat in the ring for 2017 defensive end TyJuan Garbutt when it offered him shortly after the Lasch Bash Saturday. The junior-to-be now has a total of 10 offers, including ones from PSU rivals Pitt and Michigan State.

Garbutt hails from Riverbend High in Fredericksburg, Va. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder tells FOS how the Lasch Bash visit went and his reaction to the offer.

“It was a nice visit,” he said. “We did a lot of fun things during the Bash. I was able to bond with other great players. After the event ended, I met with Coach (Brent) Pry, Coach (Herb) Hand and Coach (James) Franklin. We discussed the interest I have in PSU.”

So what level are we talking about?

“High interest,” he said. “Great program and great coaches.”

Garbutt had a feeling an offer was coming.

“Yeah, I kind of expected the offer,” he reported. “But at the same time, I wasn't 100 percent sure the offer would come with all the great players there at Lasch Bash. I was really excited when offered. I've watched some (PSU) games on TV. I came away impressed by their games against Ohio State and Rutgers.”

Return visits to Happy Valley are likely.

“I'm possibly coming for the Buffalo game Sept. 12,” he said, adding that he intends to be in town for the Rutgers game the following week, as well.

Garbutt announced a top five of Penn State, Pitt, Michigan State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

He plans to commit July 14, 2016, which is also his birthday.
