Penn State began season No. 2 of the James Franklin era on the practice fields outside of Lasch Building Thursday.
A roughly 20-minute portion of the session was open to the media. And as was the case in 2014, dozens of members of the press showed up to see the Nittany Lions in action.
Of course, by the end of the 2014 regular season, only a handful of media types were showing up for the weekly open practices. That tends to happen as the season drags on and the weather gets nasty.
But Thursday was a beautiful day in Happy Valley. Temperatures were in the 70s. The sun was hidden behind the clouds. Neither serious wind nor any hint of rain threatened the session.
All of that -- coupled with the free lunch at Media Day over in Beaver Stadium earlier in the day -- practically assured a serious turnout of the fourth estate.
They saw the Nittany Lions begin preseason camp in helmets, shirts and shorts. During the open portion, the staff worked on special teams and then put the players through workout stations.
As usual, FOS photographer Harvey Levine was on hand to capture the key images of the event. Take a look below to see his work.
