Penn State wrapped up its annual Photo Day at Beaver Stadium Sunday with group shots of James Franklin and his staff.
While that did not go quite as smoothly as the team photo and position photos that were taken earlier in the afternoon, it did lead to some comic relief and a bit of insight into the way members of the staff kid one another.
There was a lengthy delay to take the first staff photo because quarterbacks coach Ricky Rahne could not be located. Support staffers began whipping out cell phones to track him down, and it was eventually determined that he had gone back to the Lasch Football Complex.
Rahne, who had been at Beaver Stadium for the earlier photos, was so anxious to get back to work that he forgot about the staff photos. So a staffer in a golf cart was dispatched to make the five-minute drive (each way) to pick him up.
Ever resourceful, Franklin used the delay to get everyone in place for the full-staff photo. This was no small task, considering the staff is comprised of more than 30 people.
During this process, it was realized that community relations and player development guy P.J. Mullen was missing. He was easier to locate, as he was right outside the stadium making sure the players were getting on the proper buses back to Lasch.
Mullen made it back first. Then later, Rahne. Each received some serious razzing upon their respective returns, with Rahne getting a pretty funny version of the old cold shoulder.
