James Franklin Post-Practice PC

See what the Penn State coach had to say when he met the media following Wednesday’s workout.

Penn State coach James Franklin met the media after practice Wednesday to talk about a variety of topics. You can check out his entire press conference in the video above.

Some of his talking points:

• The all-important left offensive tackle position is still up for grabs, as junior college transfer Paris Palmer has not seized it. Palmer is still adjusting to the major-college game. But it is not yet time to start thinking about making position changes to address the position.

• There is competition for the starting running back job. Franklin said veteran Akeel Lynch, redshirt freshmen Nick Scott and Mark Allen, and true freshman Saquon Barkley are all in the mix.

• There is much more competition and depth in the program this year than there was last season. But PSU is still not where it needs to be in that department.

• The team has done some live scrimmage action but only in spots. The first full scrimmage will take place Saturday.

• OL Wendy Laurent has stepped up his game this camp.

• Redshirt freshman WR DeAndre Thompkins has been a nice surprise in camp. He and Allen are battling for PR duties.

• TE Adam Breneman is still showing some rust after missing lasst season due to injury.
