Jay Paterno wants to set the record straight. As it turns out, his famous dad was known to enjoy a cold beer every now and then.
“When I was a kid, he’d have a case of Blatz delivered,” said Jay Patero, the son of the late Penn State football coach. “I think it was $3.99 a case. He’d sit around on a warm day and drink a cold beer.”
The elder Paterno was more well known for enjoying an occasional pour of Old Grand Dad in his later years. But now, his name is attached to a new beer that is available in State College (and soon throughout Pennsylvania and areas of New Jersey).
Joe Paterno Legacy Series beer, a Duquense Lager, went on sale in State College Friday and by all accounts it has been a rousing success so far. Check the video above to learn more about sales, a charitable component to the project and more.
