Michigan Standout Favors Penn State

It's no secret that Penn State needs to sign several top quality linebackers in this recruiting class. Tim Shaw from Clarenceville High in Livonia, Michigan fits the criteria. The 6-1, 220 pound LB/RB is highly coveted by the Nittany Lions, and for good reason.

Last season, Tim rushed for 2,552 yards on 225 carries and set a state record by scoring an amazing 48 touchdowns.  He is on-pace to set state records for all-time yardage and all-time points as well.  He has already run for over 300 yards and 6 touchdowns in his first two games this season.  On the defensive side of the ball, Tim tallied 95 tackles last year as a wsLB on a team that had 4 guys with 90 or more tackles.  He also added 4 interceptions.

Tim is primarily being recruited as a linebacker.  His speed (4.43 40-yard dash) and athletic ability has led several schools to tender him a scholarship offer.

"I have offers from Central Michigan, Miami of Ohio, Duke, Michigan State, Boston College, Penn State, Purdue and Indiana," he said.  "Michigan, Northwestern, Stanford, Notre Dame and Nebraska are some other teams that are recruiting me."

Penn State is currently his favorite school, followed by Notre Dame.  The other three in his top five include Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue.  He also mentioned Northwestern, Stanford and Nebraska.

This year, Tim attended camps at Penn State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Purdue, Indiana and Michigan State.   He also attended a Nike Camp in Michigan.

Tim grew up a fan of the Michigan Wolverines but they have not shown him that they are seriously interested.  Penn State has made Tim feel very wanted.

"Penn State showed me that they wanted me so much," he said.  "They offered me in July, a couple of days after camp.  The program is really organized.  Everyone is working for the same goal."

Tim has very good grades and is already easily qualified.  He does not know what he will study in college.  As far as football is concerned, Tim just wants to feel comfortable with coaches.

He sees himself making a decision somewhere around Christmas time.

I will have an update very soon regarding Tim's experience at the Miami game and his reaction to the results.
