Penn State-Temple Report Card

Who made the grade and who failed as the Nittany Lions came up very short against the Owls?

PHILADELPHIA — Our report card from Penn State’s 27-10 loss to Temple at Lincoln Financial Field here Saturday.

OVERALL: There is really no other way to paint this performance. We would have gone “F-” if not for some solid play in the first quarter.

Grade: F

OFFENSE: Yeah, we know Temple has a good defense. But the inability of the PSU staff to adjust was absurd.

Grade: F-

DEFENSE: There were mitigating circumstances (injuries) here, we’ll admit that much.

Grade: D+

SPECIAL TEAMS: A relative bright spot. No need to harp on the positive here.

Grade: B

COACHING: James Franklin always says he should get most of the blame when his team loses. We’ll add his assistants in there on this one, too, so he is not lonely.

Grade: F

INTANGIBLES: After the first quarter, Penn State did not seem to have any juice. None.

Grade: F-

OTHER GUY: Penn State fans can now go back to rooting for former Nittany Lion and State College native Matt Rhule. He is doing nice things at Temple.

Grade: A

OFFICIALS: To blame them for anything would be ridiculous. So we won’t.

Grade: B

CROWD: The biggest crowd ever for a Temple game at the Linc (69,176). Great facility. OK atmosphere.

Grade: B
