Our report card from Penn State’s 27-14 win over Buffalo.

OVERALL: It looked like this was going to be another very ugly game, especially for the offense. But the Lions got things moving in the fourth quarter.

Grade: C+

OFFENSE: As we noted, there was improvement. Still way too many mistakes, though.

Grade: C-

DEFENSE: This group did not give up a second score until the game was out of reach.

Grade: B

SPECIAL TEAMS: Some great stuff from the return game.

Grade: B+

COACHING: For all of the criticism the offensive staff has received, it put the players in a lot of good positions Saturday. Execution errors prevented the Lions from scoring more points.

Grade: B

INTANGIBLES: When Buffalo closed to 10-7, there was no sense of panic from Penn State.

Grade: B

OTHER GUY: Tough to be very positive when a team is penalized 14 times for 107 yards.

Grade: D+

OFFICIALS: There was one horrendous pass interference call against the Lions.

Grade: C-

CROWD: Give the 80,000 or so who showed up in the ugly weather credit. The announced number was 93,065.
