Penn State's Franklin: Excessive Celebration Penalty Addressed

The Penn State coach said an excessive celebration flag on DaeSean Hamilton in the Buffalo game was "justified" and "that's not who we are." It has been addressed in house.

During his weekly press conference at Beaver Stadium Tuesday, it took Penn State's James Franklin about a minute to say something a former Nittany Lion coach used to sum up in six words.

Whenever one of his players celebrated too much after a touchdown (or sack or interception or whatever), Joe Paterno would preach, "Act like you've been there before."

It sounds like that was Franklin's message to receiver DaeSean Hamilton, who spun the ball on the turf following a fourth-quarter touchdown vs. Buffalo at Beaver Stadium Saturday. He was hit was an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that — after seeing the play on tape — Franklin said was "justified."

Check out Franklin's entire response to a question about the penalty and his stance on that sort of thing.
