Fireworks greeted Penn State as it took the field for a game against Rutgers at Beaver Stadium Saturday night.
But the pyrotechnics did not end there.
The Nittany Lion offense finally exploded in the second quarter, scoring three TDs. They all came on the ground, as Akeel Lynch busted a 75-yard run, Saquon Barkley scored from 15 yards out and DeAndre Thompkins took an end around two yards.
Meanwhile, the defense did not allow a first-half point, and the beat-down was on.
Penn State held a 311 to 115 advantage in total yards inthe first half in building a 21-0 lead. The Lions cruised to a 28-3 victory.
Barkley finished with 21 carries for 195 yads and two scores. Lynch had 10 carries for 120 yards and a score.
As a team, Penn State rushed for 330 yards while holding RU to 43 yards on the ground.
