Our report card from Penn State’s 37-21 win over San Diego State.
OVERALL: Given the injury issues, we’re grading on a bit of a curve here. A 16-point win is a 16-point win.
OFFENSE: Even with the top two RBs lost to injury, the offense left a lot of scoring meat on the bone.
DEFENSE: The three TDs allowed are deceiving. One came on special teams, another on a short field after a special teams’ blunder.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Penn State’s special teams did an excellent job of keeping SDSU in the game. Big step backward after an excellent effort vs. Rutgers.
COACHING: We didn’t really think PSU’s problems in this game had anything to do with schemes or play calling.
INTANGIBLES: Even when the Lions fell behind 14-13 in the second quarter, you never did get the feeling they were in any sort of trouble.
OTHER GUY: The Aztecs played hard. Difficult to believe they lost to Alabama State at home.
OFFICIALS: Some dicey stuff both ways.
CROWD: Not a lot of juice in the crowd announced at 95,107. We’re guessing it was at least 10,000 less than that.
