While Saturday was a harrowing day for Penn State's Anthony Zettel having just lost his father, Terry, to cancer, the Nittany Lion defensive tackle channeled his emotions into a impressive on-field performance against San Diego State. On the day Zettel ended with a career- and game-high seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a half sack, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup.
The effort was enough to earn the senior his first ever Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor. It was also enough to help run away with the PSU fan vote in the FOS Player of the Game honor for the San Diego State clash.
Zettel ended up with a landslide 76 percent of the fan vote with the second closest vote getter, QB Christian Hackenberg, with 16 percent.
The Fight On State Player of the Game honor is the first and longest running Penn State player award given by Nittany Lion fans. Voting is conducted exclusviely at FightOnState.com after Penn State football games.
