Penn State signed its best recruiting class of the modern era Wednesday afternoon. Early in the evening, Nittany Lion coach Pat Chambers and more than 100 of his most ardent supporters celebrated at an event in the Founder’s Room at the Jordan Center.
Making appearances for the get-together, which included food, soft drinks and desserts, were Penn State president Eric Baron and football coach James Franklin.
But the real guests of honor were the signees — guards Nazeer Bostick and Tony Cary, and forwards Joe Hampton and Lamar Stevens. All four made appearances vs. Skype, each answering questions from Nittany Lion play-by-play man Steve Jones and each seeming a bit overwhelmed by the crowd that greeted them with strong applause.
“I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little bit nervous,” said Hampton, who checked in from Oak Hill (Va.) Academy. Bostick, Carr and Stevens all Skyped in from the gym of their high school — Philadelphia Roman Catholic.
We caught up with Chambers afterward to ask about the inaugural signing day event. Check it out above.
