PSU Rookie F Watkins Not Cleared By NCAA

After a 62-50 win over VMI Saturday, Nittany Lion coach Pat Chambers announced that freshman Mike Watkins has not been cleared to play by the NCAA. See Chambers talk about it.

As Penn State took on VMI at the Jordan Center Saturday, it was clear something was up with Nittany Lion freshman forward Mike Watkins. He attended the game in street clothes and sat in the stands, albeit not far from the PSU bench.

After the game, Lion coach Pat Chambers opened his press conference by saying Watkins had not been cleared by the NCAA. You can see Chambers' comments above. In short, he said PSU is working with the NCAA "very closely" to resolve the situation and that Watkins is still enrolled at the university and doing well in school.

Watkins is a 6-foot-8, 245-pounder from Philadelphia who played his junior season of high school at Math, Civics & Sciences High before transferring to Phelps School for his senior campaign.
