This matchup is part of the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff Games matching Big Ten and Big East opponents and also part of ESPNs annual Tipoff Marathon (hence the odd starting time). Nittany Lion coach Pat Chambers(99-103 overall, 56-75 at PSU) squares off with new/old DePaul coach Dave Leitao (143-129, 59-34), who is back in Chicago after previously leading the Blue Demons for three seasons (2002-05).

Penn State is 0-6 all-time vs. DePaul, but the two teams have not met since a 78-61 Blue Demon win at Rec Hall in 1984. DePaul also beat PSU in 1938, 55, 68, 77 and 82.

The Blue Demons rallied to beat Eastern Michigan (69-63) in their season-opener Saturday. PSU beat VMI (62-50) at the BJC Saturday.

Chambers played all 10 of his eligible scholarship players in the opener, and eight of them scored.

DePaul has been picked to finish eighth in the 10-team Big East.

DePaul and Xavier are the only members of the current Big East that have never lost to Penn State. PSU and Xavier have never played.

One game for each team is a small sample. But neither team shot well Saturday. The Blue Demons made only 13.3 percent of their 3-pointers (2 of 15) vs. EMU while the Lions were good for only 26.3 percent (5 of 19) vs. VMI.

Penn State 72, DePaul 67

The Blue Demons were 3-13 away from home last season, including seven straight losses.

1-0 straight up, 0-1 vs. the line
