Nassib Named Nagurski Trophy Finalist

Penn State defensive end, Carl Nassib, honored as finalist for the Nagurski Trophy.

Penn State defensive end Carl Nassib has been named one of five finalists for the Nagurski Trophy honoring the nation's top defensive player. Nassib was named a finalist for the Lombardi Award for the nation's top lineman earlier this week.

Nassib is the fifth Nittany Lion to be named as a finalist. Previously Lion legends Devon Still (2011), Tamba Hali (2005), LaVar Arrington (1999) and Courtney Brown (1999) were honored as finalists for the trophy.

Nassib is joined by fellow finalists Jeremy Cash (Duke), Shaq Lawson (Clemson), Tyler Matakevich (Temple) and Reggie Ragland (Alabama).

On the year Nassib leads the nation in sacks (15.5), sack yards (107), sacks per game (1.55),  tackles for loss (19.5) and forced fumbles (6). He is the first Nittany Lion finalist since linebacker Paul Posluszny was in both 2005 and 2006. Penn State's Bruce Clark won the honor in 1978.

The finalists will be honored at a banquet in Charlotte on Monday, December 7.
