It'll be a busy off season for Carl Nassib. The senior defensive end has already been named as a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy (nation's top defensive player), Lombardi Award (nation's top lineman) and the Burlsworth Trophy (nation's top player who started as a walk-on). Now the Penn State standout has been named as a finalist for the Bednerik Award, given to the nation's top college defensive player of the year.
Temple’s Tyler Matakevich and Alabama’s Reggie Ragland join Nassib as finalists.
Nassib leads the nation in total sacks with 15.5 (15 solo) and total sack yards with 107. He also leads the nation in sacks per game with 1.4 and forced fumbles with six.
Penn State has produced more Bednarik Award honorees than any other program nationally with Dan Connor (2007), Paul Posluszny (2005, 2006) and LaVar Arrington (1999). The Lions have also finalists with Devon Still (2011), Aaron Maybin (2008) and Courtney Brown (1999).
