Three Nittany Lions Win Rookie All-Big Ten Notice

ESPN tabs Saquon Barkley, Troy Reeder and John Reid among the best first-year players in the conference.

During a pre-TaxSlayer Bowl press conference in Jacksonville, Fla., Thursday, Penn State coach James Franklin said his program had a “very bright” future.

A bit of news Friday seemed to support that notion.

Three Nittany Lions — RB Saquon Barkley, LB Troy Reeder and DB John Reid — were selected to ESPN’s Big Ten All-Freshman team.

A second-team All-Big Ten pick and USA Today Freshman All-American, Barkley leads the Lions with a PSU rookie record 1,007 rushing yards on the season.

Reeder started State’s last 11 games and has 67 tackles, good for fourth on the team. He also has 5.5 tackles for loss and an interception.

Reid started the first two games of the season and was a key figure in the secondary all year. He is tied for the team lead with two picks, and has caused one fumble and recovered another.

Barkley and Reid are both true freshman. Reeder is a redshirt frosh.
