Penn State DT Austin Johnson Declares For The NFL Draft

The Nittany Lion junior will give up his final season of eligibility to turn pro. We were on hand when he made the announcement.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Following a 24-17 loss to Georgia in the TaxSlayer Bowl here Saturday, Penn State defensive tackle Austin Johnson left the locker room and side-stepped the media. He looked emotional.

But after most of the postgame press session was complete, he returned. Johnson, who had clearly been crying, announced he was giving up his final season of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft.

"I was trying not to cry, not to tear up,” Johnson said. "But, just saying good bye to all those guys (was difficult)."
