The Penn State Nittany Lions took on the Minnesota Golden Gophers at the Bryce Jordan Center Tuesday night. But PSU coach Pat Chambers was more interested in talking about pachyderms after the game.
“I was proud of our guys because there was a big elephant in the room and on our backs because of the last three years,” he said. “… For these guys to step up and not say, oh, here we go again or woe is me … they were ready to attack.”
The Lions started the last three B1G campaigns with losing streaks of 14, six and six games. And after road losses to No. 3 Maryland and Michigan to tip off this year's league slate — and not to mention with No. 5 Michigan State looming Sunday — well, falling to the Gophers would have been rough.
But PSU rallied for an 86-77 victory. Which prompted Chambers' elephant comments afterward.
