Penn State's Pry Promoted To Defensive Coordinator

Pry replaces the departed Bob Shoop as the head of the Nittany Lion defense. Smith, Spencer also get added duties.

Penn State’s James Franklin wasted no time replacing departed defensive coordinator Bob Shoop.

Shoop left for Tennessee Saturday night. By Sunday afternoon, Nittany Lion linebackers coach Brent Pry was promoted to defensive coordinator. The move came as no surprise, as Pry was technically co-defensive coordinator with Shoop the past two seasons.

The news did not end there.

Cornerbacks coach Terry Smith is now also the assistant head coach (one of Pry’s former jobs) and will continue on as defensive recruiting coordinator.

Also, Penn State said Sean Spencer — who has coached the defensive line the last two seasons — is now defensive run game coordinator, as well.

Stay tuned for more as this story develops.
