Penn State has hired Matt Limegrover as its offensive line coach. Limegrover was previously assistant head coach at Minnesota football, and served as the team's offensive coordinator and offensive line coach since 2011.
“I am both humbled and honored to join Coach (James) Franklin’s staff and coach at Penn State,” Limegrover said. "Growing up in western Pennsylvania, I have been a Penn State fan my entire life and to now have the opportunity to coach there is overwhelming. I can’t wait to get there and start working on building an offensive line to help this program become a championship team.”
"We are really excited to have Matt join our staff,” Franklin said. "He is another Pennsylvania guy, born and raised in Pittsburgh, so he is very familiar with Penn State and this region. He brings a wealth of knowledge and a ton of great experience, both as an offensive line coach and as an offensive coordinator. The numbers that his offenses have put up speak for themselves. As great of a coach as Matt is, he is an even better man; he cares about people, cares about education and cares about the community. We are looking forward to having Matt, his wife, Ann, and their children, Emma and T.J., join our Penn State football family."
As offensive coordinator, Minnesota's socring averaged increased steadily with 29.2 PPG in 2015, 28.4 PPG in 2014, 25.7 PPG in 2013, 21.3 PPG in 2012 ans 18.4 PPG in 2001. Limegrover coached offensive lineman Zac Epping to first team All-Big Ten honors, the Gophers first first team selection since 2005.
In 2014 he coached a Minnesota ground game that was No. 28 nationally and the best the Gophers had seesn since 2005 with 2,801 rushing yards and 32 rushing touchdowns.
Limegrover is a Pittsburgh native and apparently knows Penn State's new offensive coodinator Moorhead very well as they went to the same high school (Pittsburgh Central Catholic).
Limegrover replaces former PSU O-line coach Herb Hand, who accepted the same position at Auburn earlier this week.
