Illinois Commit To Take A Hard Look At Penn State

Ohio three-star DT Antonio Shelton will be seeing plenty of the Nittany Lion coaching staff this week.

Three-star Illinois defensive tackle commit Antonio Shelton plans to visit Penn State next weekend. The 6-foot-2, 263-pounder from  Westerville (Ohio) North High will have other contact with the Nittany Lions in the near future, too.

"I'm planning on visiting Penn State next weekend,” Shelton said. “Coach (James) Franklin and Coach (Sean) Spencer are coming to see me this week, as well. I'm not sure what day yet, but those two coaches from PSU will visit me."

Asked if he sports a PSU offer, Shelton said, “Yes sir.”

Shelton committed to the Illini last June. Even though new Nittany Lion assistant coach Tim Banks was with Illinois as the time, the two have not had much contact, Shelton said.

So why he is checking out the Nittany Lions?

“I like Penn State because they play at a championship level,” he said.

PSU is not the only B1G school trying to make inroads with Shelton. He just returned from an official visit to Rutgers.

He said he will make his final decision after checking out Happy Valley next weekend.
