Ed Johnson from Crockett Tech in Detroit Michigan decided that he wanted to go to college outside the state of Michigan. He chose Penn State and is excited to play football for the Nittany Lions.

Name: Ed Johnson
Position: DL / LB
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 260 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.75 (Bowling Green camp)
School: Crockett Technical High School, Detroit, Michigan

Ed played several positions this past season for Crockett Tech, including linebacker, defensive tackle, defensive end, tight end and running back to name a few.

"I've played everything on offense except quarterback," Johnson said. "We had a couple of injuries this year."

Ed received 1st team All-City honors, 1st team All-State honors, and also made the Michigan Dream Team.

According to Ed, he had offers from Penn State, Michigan State, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Indiana.

He called the Penn State coaching staff last Friday to tell them he wanted to be a Nittany Lion.

"It was the environment, the people," Ed said.  "It was just something different and I liked it."

On several prior occasions, Ed let it be known that he would like to attend college outside the state of Michigan.

"My decision wasn't really based on the distance.  I just really liked it when I went there on my visit."

Penn State recruited Ed to play either linebacker or defensive end.

"It doesn't matter to me.  I'll be good wherever I play."

The Penn State coaching staff did not promise Ed early playing time, but they told him that the opportunity is there.

"They said that if I come to camp and I was taking care of my business, then I'll probably be playing.  If not, I'll redshirt."

Johnson wants to major in Pre-Law.
