Previewing The Opening New Jersey Regional

Plenty of Penn State targets are scheduled to compete at Sunday's Nike event at the New York Jets' practice facility. Get the lowdown.

The New York Jets’ practice facility in Florham Park, N.J., will be transformed into a showcase for high school football players Sunday, as Nike’s The Opening Regional rolls into town.

And it looks like plenty of high-level Penn State targets — and a few commits — will be on hand.

The commits slated to attend include a pair of Harrisburg-area DEs in Class of 2017 three star Damion Barber and Class of 2018 five star Micah Parsons. Also making the drive from Harrisburg are Class of 2018 WR (and PSU offer-holder) Shaquon Anderson-Butts, as well as Class of 2017 LB Brandon Hickerson-Rooks and OL Eric Washington. Hickerson-Rooks and Washington do not sport Penn State offers.

The other Nittany Lion commits supposed to be on hand in New Jersey are OL Rob Martin and DE Yetur Matos. Martin goes to school in nearby Montvale, N.J., while Matos is making the trek from the Fredericksburg, Va., area.

New Jersey four-star prospects holding Penn State offers scheduled to be at the camp include OLB Drew Singleton, DT Fred Hansard, athlete Markquese Bell and OL Carter Warren. A pair of three-star Garden State DTs with PSU offers — Dalyn Wade-Perry and Corey Bolds — should be on hand, too.

Other top-rated Nittany Lion offer-holders scheduled to attend include a pair of Philadelphia-area products in four-star RB D'Andre Swift and three-star WR Mark Webb. Webb’s teammate and fellow WR at St. Joe’s Prep — Class of 2018 product Darryle Simmons — also holds a PSU offer and should be at The Opening.

Coming down from Connecticut will be four-star athlete C.J. Holmes, four-star WR Tarik Black and three-star OL Andrew Stueber. Holmes and Black are teammates at Cheshire Academy. The former has a PSU offer, the latter does not.

In the meantime, a pair of PSU targets from Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn are scheduled to be crossing the bridges into New Jersey to take part in the camp — Class of 2017 athlete Jahquel Webb and Class of 2018 four-star DT Matt Jones.

Though there was a regional Opening in the Washington, D.C., area earlier this year, several top Virginia products (and PSU offer-holders) are slated to be journeying to New Jersey. That included Matos, DE Luiji Vilain and DT Jordan Williams.

Speaking of athletes traveling far to be at this weekend’s camp, Tennessee three-star DT Rutger Reitmaier holds 14 offers, including one from PSU. He is scheduled to be on hand, too.
