It took a while for the news to come, but Anthony Zettel is going home.
Penn State’s defensive lineman, a native of West Branch, Mich., was picked by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round (202nd overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.
The good news for Zettel is Detroit operates out of a base 4-3 defense. Though he played tackle at PSU, the 6-foot-4, 277-pound Zettel projects as a defensive end at the next level.
The Lions are coached by former Penn State assistant Jim Caldwell.
Two picks later, PSU defensive back Jordan Lucas went to the Miami Dolphins.
Lucas likely would have gone higher, but he missed the last three games of the 2015 season, the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine workouts after undergoing shoulder surgery. However, he tested well at PSU’s Pro Day in March.
Lucas played corner and safety at Penn State, but said he felt he projected more as a corner in the NFL. In announcing the pick of Lucas, the Dolphins referred to him simply as a DB.
