Hampton (Va.) defensive end Elijah Conliffe is one of the top defensive line recruits on Penn State’s recruiting board. Nittany Lion coaches Brent Pry and Josh Gattis stopped by Hampton recently for an evaluation visit.
Afterward, they told him via social media that they liked what they saw on the eval trip.
"Coach Pry and Coach Gattis came and saw me (last) Wednesday,” Conliffe said. “Then they told me I was getting bigger and stronger. They were also telling me dates of when I could visit Penn State."
Is a trip to Happy Valley in the works?
"Yes sir,” he said. “I'm trying to make a visit to Penn State in July."
Beyond that, however, he is not sure who else he will visit this spring and summer. That’s in part because the 6-foot-4, 260-pound four-star end’s recruitment has been gathering momentum recently.
"Tennessee, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech and Penn State are the schools recruiting me the hardest,” he explained. “All of the schools tell me how much they want me be at their school.”
Michigan State has offered and is also showing significant interest. A new player on the scene is Southern Cal, which has yet to offer, “but they’re telling me they’d love me to come there.”
It has all made the recruiting process more complicated than he imaged it would be, so he’ll likely wait to make a decision until near Signing Day. Not that’s he complaining.
'My recruitment gets longer with every new offer,” he said. “… I'm extremely thankful and blessed to be in this position. I never thought this could happen."
