Florida Class of 2018 four-star receiver Warren Thompson did not know a whole heck of a lot about Penn State before the Nittany Lions offered recently. But what he did know probably worked in the program’s favor.
Thompson hails from Armwood, just outside of Tampa and a few hours from Jacksonville. As such, he is a fan of Jaguars’ All-Pro receiver Allen Robinson.
"Coach (Josh) Gattis offered me,” Thompson said. “I don't know much about Penn State, but I know that Allen Robinson — a big-time NFL wide receiver for Jacksonville that I look up to — came from Penn State."
That may be enough to get him to take a closer look at the Nittany Lions.
"I’ll possibly be coming up for a visit this summer,” he said. “I have to talk to my coach about going up there. I definitely want to get up there, though.”
Thompson said he has not put considerable thought into picking a school yet, but that for the time being two local programs that have both offered are standing out.
"Miami is my number one school, with Florida being the number two," he said.
He recently told Scout that his top six includes Miami, Florida, Penn State, North Carolina, Louisville and South Florida.
Loney’s Take: This is an uphill battle against the Florida schools.
