Penn State is looking to Florida as it tries to fill its long-term recruiting needs at linebacker. The Nittany Lions recently offered Deerfield Beach Class of 2018 LB Kenny Bastida, a 6-foot-2, 230-pounder.
Bastida was thrilled to hear from “Linebacker U.”
"It felt great getting an offer from Penn State,” he said. “PSU is known to have the best linebackers in the country. It is amazing to have the offer."
Recruiting interest is building for Bastida, who received another recent offer from LSU. He said Rutgers is recruiting him the hardest and Tennessee — which has yet to offer — “is my favorite.”
Bastida hopes to visit Penn State this summer as part of a college tour several top prospects from his team are making. He teammates include 2017 WR Daewood Davis, 2017 OLB Branden Bailey, 2018 DE Rosendo Louis and 2019 DE Ge'mon Eaford. Davis and Eaford also hold PSU offers.
He said other schools slated to be on the tour include Tennessee, Georgia, Florida State, Florida, Miami, Alabama, North Carolina and Bowling Green.
Bastida intends to make his college choice at the end of his junior season.
Loney’s Take: This is an uphill battle for Penn State, as the attractive offers closer to home only figure to increase with time.
