Penn State Bounces Into Pouncey Recruitment

The Florida receiver hopes to be able to make a summer visit to see the Nittany Lions.

Penn State has entered the mix for Class of 2017 Florida three-star receiver Jordan Pouncey. Nittany Lion assistant coach Josh Gattis conveyed the offer on a recent evaluation visit.

"Coach Gattis came to my school and offered before he left,” Pouncey said. “I wasn't surprised by the offer, though."

Pouncey had done some research on PSU before receiving the offer.

"I know that Penn State is rich in tradition and that is something I like,” he said. “Before they had the sanctions put on them, they were a very good team. Now that Coach (James) Franklin is there, they run a spread offense and run the offense at a fast pace. I think the new offense is a very good fit for the way I play."

Pouncey’s summer visit schedule includes trips to Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. He hopes to get to Happy Valley now, too.

"I want to visit Penn State this summer,” he said. “I am going to try to make that happen."

Who is Penn State’s stiffest completion here?

"I would say right now Alabama, Duke, Arizona, Louisville and North Carolina State are recruiting me the hardest, with Alabama being my favorite,” Pouncey said, adding he is not sure when he’ll make his decision.

Loney's Take: It is going to be difficult to get him out of SEC country. But getting him in for a visit will help Penn State’s chances.
