Is 2018 Massachusetts Tight End Ready To Commit?

Junior-to-be Patrick Freiermuth visited Penn State and Syracuse in recent days. Get the lowdown on which school appears to be in the lead as he considers making and early commitment.

Massachusetts Class of 2018 tight end Patrick Freiermuth made a couple of key unofficial visits over the past few days. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder was at Syracuse Saturday and then Penn State Monday.

Though he enjoyed both visits, the trip to Happy Valley really stood out to him. How much so?

“I would say Penn State leads in my recruitment,” Freiermuth said. “I actually thought about committing to PSU. I need to talk to my parents, family and my coach, as well. But committing to PSU is a possibility.”

Whatever school he picks, it sounds like the commitment is going down very soon.

"Probably tomorrow (Tuesday),” Freiermuth said.

Freiermuth camped at Penn State July 15, and the most recent trek to central Pennsylvania solidified the positive feelings he had for the Nittany Lions.

“The visit was everything I could have asked for,” he said. “From meeting with the (assistant) coaches again and talking to Coach (James) Franklin. … Coach Franklin said it best: ‘If you commit to us, we are committed to you no matter what happens.’ That really stood out to me and meant a lot.”

In terms of getting the necessary feedback he needs to make his final decision, Freiermuth said his parents were high on the Nittany Lions, too.

"They love the idea of me playing football at PSU,” he explained.
