Listen Up! Penn State Playing It Safe With Heinz Headsets

Last week, Pitt was caught in a pickle when there were issues with its coaching headsets in a 28-7 win over Villanova. So before this week's game with the Panthers in the Steel City, the Lions are mustering different ways to communicate so the same issues does not catch up with them.

Pitt opened the 2016 season with an easy 28-7 win over Villanova at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, even though the Panther coaches had issues with their headsets in the stadium.

With his team traveling to the same stadium to face Pitt this week, Penn State head coach James Franklin is taking no chances on the headset front.

"We are going to check it four times before the game,” Franklin said during his post-practice press conference Wednesday. "We've also called the (NFL's) Steelers (who share the stadium with Pitt) and asked them (if there) is anything to be aware of or any issues."

And then he went on to explain some other extreme measures his staff is prepared to take — one of them tongue-in-cheek — to make sure communication is not a problem at Heinz Field. He also explained who provides the actual headset equipment, and reflected on a game when his staff had headset issues.
