Four-star linebacker Darrell Shelton will take an unofficial visit to Penn State this weekend to see the Nittany Lions take on Temple at Beaver Stadium. Shelton is in the 2018 Scout 300 as a linebacker and has over a dozen offers that include schools from the Power Five conferences.
Shelton does not have an offer from Penn State but that's something that may change soon. "They (Penn State) haven't offered yet, but there has been plenty of contact between me and the coaching staff," said Shelton. "I've had the most contact with Coach (Mike) Villagrana and Coach (Brent) Pry."
Despite Penn State being over a thousand miles from his home, Shelton is familiar with Penn State football and their history of great play at the linebacker position. The coaches see him as a player that can continue that tradition as a linebacker at Penn State. "That's LBU (Linebacker University)," said Shelton. "The coaches like my speed and ability to get off blocks."
It'll be Shelton's first visit to Penn State, and he already has positive thoughts about the school and its football program.
"I like the football tradition at Penn State," said Shelton. "When it comes to academics, Penn State is a top-notch school. I think the football program is working its way back to national prominence."
Shelton said that he will also be taking unofficial visits to Florida State and Ohio State this month.
