PSU-Maryland: FOS Report Card

Who made the grade and who came up short as the Nittany Lions rolled over the Terrapins? We let you know.

Our report card from Penn State's unexpected 38-14 blowout of previously unbeaten Maryland at Beaver Stadium Saturday.

OVERALL

What a great way for the Nittany Lions to head into the mid-season bye.

Grade: A

OFFENSE

So this is what Joe Moorehead's offense looks like while operating at near peak efficiency. We're trying to remember the last time PSU's offensive brain trust coached circles around a quality opponent. Same goes for the O-line dominating a decent foe.

Grade: A

DEFENSE

This unit only gave up 14 points, and seven of them came after a very bad punt. But we have to dock at least one letter grade here for the lousy tackling (at times).

Grade: B

SPECIAL TEAMS

P Blake Gillikin trying to punt while being banged up explains a lot.

Grade: C

COACHING

The execution was not perfect. But to us, that was on the players. James Franklin and his staff really outclassed new Terp coach DJ Durkin and his crew.

Grade: A

INTANGIBLES

Another game where the Nittany Lions brought the swagger. That was fun to watch.

Grade: A

OTHER GUY

Maryland looked like an unbeaten team that had fattened up on pretty poor competition.

Grade: D

OFFICIALS

That sure looked like a horse collar tackle on PSU RB Saquon Barkley.

Grade: C

CROWD

A second straight week of blah weather, but official attendance still climbed to 100,778.

Grade: B

null
