FOS Fearless Forecast: Penn State vs. Iowa

The FOS staff and friends give their prognostications for the No. 12 Nittany Lions' White Out (v2) showdown with the Hawkeyes.

Nirav Dalal (PlaybookNirav)

COMMENT: Iowa is a shell of its 2015 self. PSU has too many playmakers on both sides of the ball in comparison, and enough cannot be said about the confidence that the O-line is playing with. I like PSU to get out to a quick start and never look back.

PREDICTION: Penn State 31, Iowa 14

Scott Cole (PSU96)

COMMENT: White Out 2.0 arrives on Saturday against a physical, rested Iowa team that has traditionally given Penn State fits. The Lions have the edge in athleticism on both sides of the ball, but look for this to be a real slugfest. The home crowd gives Penn State the edge it needs to get the W.

PREDICTION: Penn State 24, Iowa 17

COMMENT: Yep, an overtime victory for PSU. Penn State plays a sloppy game but comes out with a victory in the end. Iowa throws the proverbial kitchen sink at the Lions, but it's not enough. Barkley again leads the way.

PREDICTION: Penn State 27, Iowa 24 (OT)

Mark Harrington (PlaybookMark)

COMMENT: While the Lions have a lot of momentum and play tough at home, the offense still has some issues to overcome. There's little doubt Iowa will be physical and disciplined in this clash, but PSU's athleticism and big-play ability should be the difference.

PREDICTION: Penn State 27, Iowa 16

Rob Riva (rriva)

COMMENT: Iowa tends to play well on the road in Happy Valley and will be up for the game. Penn State needs to be careful with the ball on offense and not let the new college football playoff ranking get to the team's head.

PREDICTION: Iowa 24, Penn State 23

Keith "Goon" Conlin (KeithConlin)

COMMENT: Let's do this again! Going to be another electric night and I don't think the Iowa guys are going to be ready for it. Our offense, dare I say, was '94-esque last week. Keep it rolling and I like the boys big. Keep improving week by week. Get here. Get loud. Ten wins is attainable . EDITOR'S NOTE: The Lions have won four straight with Goon picking against them, so he refuses to mess with his reverse magic.

PREDICTION: Iowa 27, Penn State 17

Tom Hoffman (underscoreTom)

COMMENT: Penn State is riding high but Iowa is still a dangerous team. A smart, disciplined game by the defense is crucial, but PSU needs to score some points, too. Iowa is a good road team, but no current Iowa player has ever played in Beaver Stadium.

PREDICTION: Penn State 24, Iowa 20

Scott Neal (PSUMtnBike)

COMMENT: Iowa has a history of making life difficult for Penn State, but that was against conservatively coached Nittany Lion teams that played the Hawkeyes' style of football. Iowa should be rested and healthy coming off a bye week with an expected few new wrinkles in the game plan. When the dust settles, I expect the Lions at home to come out on top.

PREDICTION: Penn State 37, Iowa 24

Tom McLaughlin (WeRPSUPlaybook)

COMMENT: The Lions have shown something this season that surprises me, and that is the ability of Franklin and staff to make positive adjustments at halftime. Capitalizing on Purdue's mistakes, Penn State eventually made the Boilers blow up. Iowa has traditionally posed problems for Penn State, and has had the bye week to prepare. The Lions, who reached bowl eligibility in October, are now seeing a chance to climb the polls. Look for this Lion team on the rise to clip the Hawkeyes' wings and take another step forward.

PREDICTION: Penn State 35, Iowa 17

Mark Brennan (MarkBrennan)

COMMENT: Iowa plays well on the road and is the last team the Lions' face in the regular season that is even remotely decent defensively. I see this game being a grind, with plenty of field goals flying through the air. Tyler Davis shines in a win.

PREDICTION: Penn State 26, Iowa 20

COMMENT: Iowa has been a nightmare for PSU in recent history. This is a solid — albeit not very athletic — Hawkeyes’ squad. After a bye week I expect them to come out like Purdue with some wrinkles that we haven't seen and don't expect. Iowa has played tough against traditional offenses but has struggled against spread O's that are athletic, and haven't seen any as good as the Lions to date. Pry and his D adjust after a tight first half, and McSorley and company spread the field and exploit the Hawkeyes D in the second half. Barkley, Godwin and company have a big second half and the Lions pull away.

PREDICTION: Penn State 35, Iowa 17

OPENING LINE: Penn State -7 (Over/Under 53)

LINE AT PRESS TIME: Penn State -7.5 (Over/Under 52.5)

AVERAGE PREDICTION: Penn State 27.8, Iowa 20.0

PENN STATE (9): Everyone exept Goon & Riva

IOWA (2): Goon & Riva
