True freshman guard Connor McGovern has been honored by the Big Ten as its Freshman of the Week for helping to block for 599 yards of offense in Penn State's 41-14 primetime win over Iowa. McGovern is the first offensive lineman to win a Big Ten weekly honor.
McGovern is the latest in Penn State's impressive list of Big Ten weekly honorees. In fact, the Nittany Lions have had at least one player honored by the Big Ten in each of their last five contests, which is the longest streak of weekly conference honors in Penn State history.
McGovern is the just third offensive lineman ever to win Big Ten weekly honors. He is also the first guard to do so. Previously Ohio State's Korey Stringer did it in 1994 and Michigan State's Sean Poole didi it in 2004. Both were offensive tackles.
McGovern has played in all nine games this season and started the last five games for PSU.
