Florida 2018 DB Names Penn State Leader

The Nittany Lions' resurgence has caught the eye of one of the best young defensive backs in the Sunshine State. Get the lowdown.

Penn State’s resurgence under third-year coach James Franklin has caught the eye of one of Florida’s top Class of 2018 cornerbacks. 

Marquis Williams, the nephew of former Minnesota standout Tyrone Carter, recently told’s Corey Bender that the Nittany Lions are at the top of his list.

Williams, who received an offer from PSU within the last month, plays at Coconut Creek High.

Here is what he told Bender:

"Penn State snuck up to my new number one. (Cornerbacks) coach Terry Smith, great coach. When they beat Ohio State, it drew me even closer to them. They were already in my top three, hands down.

"They will get an official and unofficial visit from me. The head coach has a plan — he has a great group of coaches and great scheme."

According to Bender, Williams has upcoming visits slated for with UCF (Nov. 12), Minnesota (Nov. 17) and Wisconsin (Nov. 25).
