James Franklin has been named as one of the five finalists for the 2016 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award given by the Football Writers Association of America.
The Penn State head coach joins P.J. Fleck (Western Michigan), Mike MacIntyre (Colorado), Chris Petersen (Washington) and Nick Saban (Alabama) as a finalist for the national honor. Franklin has already been name the Big Ten Coach of the Year by the media and the Associated Press Big Ten Coach of the Year.
Franklin is the first Nittany Lion football coach to be a finalist for the Robinson Coach of the Year award since 2012 and this is the eight time a Penn State coach has been named as a finalist for the national honor.
After winning the Big Ten Championship via the greatest comeback ever in a 'Power 5' title game, Franklin and his squad now focus their sites on USC and the Rose Bowl game in Pasadena, California on January 2. The winner of the Robinson Award will be announced on January 7 in Tampa Bay.
