Penn State landed it's seventeenth commitment for the 2017 class when Cass Tech (Michigan) defensive back Donovan Johnson announced via twitter that he was committing to Penn State:

Johnson is the second player to commit to Penn State within the past week.  K.J. Hamler committed to Penn State late last week.

Johnson is the second cornerback (D.J. Brown is the other) and fourth defensive back overall (Jonathan Sutherland and Brelin Faison-Walden are the two others) in the 2017 class to commit to Penn State.  Johnson is also the fourth prospect from the Midwest to commit to Penn State.  The other three are Sean Clifford, Mac Hippenhammer, and Mike Miranda

Johnson recently visited Penn State and told Scout National Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu the following:

"I saw the dorms this time and the visit was great," he said. "I talked to Coach Franklin, Coach Smith, Coach Banks, it was just a great visit."

"Coach Franklin is a great guy, very down to earth and he wants to see his players succeed the best they can. I love his family. He's just a great guy."

Penn State could potentially land its third cornerback of the class if five-star defensive back Lamont Wade commits to them when he makes his decision on Dec. 17.
