Nobody could have seen this coming, right? Penn State, in just its third year under James Franklin and still feeling the sting of NCAA sanctions, going 10-2 in the regular season (and then winning the Big Ten championship game and advancing to the Rose Bowl).
Well, as it turns out, one former Nittany Lion not only saw the 10-2 season coming, but also predicted it on television. Back in late August, Joe Nastasi proclaimed that his alma mater would in fact go 10-2 during the regular season.
So of course we had to bring Joe back for the final episode of the 19th season of The Nitwits, a weekly TV show dedicated to PSU football featuring longtime panelists Mark Brennan of FOS and Neil Rudel of the Altoona Mirror. The show airs on CBS affiliate WTAJ in central Pennsylvania, but we offer it here in podcast format for people who would like to listen to the discussion on the run.
In our final episode of the season, the gang tackles the Rose Bowl loss to USC, the programs's unexpected (to most) success in 2016 and how things shape up for Franklin and company moving forward. They also hand out the coveted "Nitwit of the Year" award.
Thanks to WTAJ's Chris Owens for once again doing a terrific job of producing the show, and Alex Cawley and Jaime Baker for serving as host.
