Penn State No. 7 in Directors' Cup

Penn State ends up at No. 7 in final fall standings of the Director's Cup, up three spots from its final position in 2015.

Penn State ended the fall sports season at No. 7 nationally in the Learfield Directors' Cup which honors colleges that maintain a successful, broad-based athletic program across an array of men's and women's sports. This is the Nittany Lions' 10th consecutive Top 10 fall finish for the Directors' Cup. Penn State and Stanford are the only athletic programs to finish in the Top 10 in the final fall Directors’ Cup standings in each of the past 10 years.

The 2016 final fall standings ended up as:

3. North Carolina (345)
4. Wisconsin (324)
5. BYU (312.5)
6. Michigan (297.5)
7. Penn State (293)
8. USC (290)
9. Washington (281.5)
10. Colorado (268.5).

Penn State's impressive fall athletics season included Big Ten Championships in football and women's soccer and a Big Ten Tournament title for the field hockey team. Four Nittany Lion squads ended up in the final Top 15 regular season rankings. These included the football (5), field hockey (5), women's cross country (8) and women's volleyball (13).
