Penn State freshman guard Tony Carr scored his only points of the game on a pair of free throws with less than six seconds remaining and the Nittany Lions held on for a 52-50 win over No. 24 Minnesota here Saturday afternoon.

PSU improved to 11-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference after overcoming a 14-point deficit. The Gophers fell to 15-4 and 3-3.

Though Carr scored the winning points, rookie forward Mike Watkins' monster game kept Penn State in it. He had 15 points, 15 rebounds and a block.

With the score tied at 50-50 and time winding down, Carr missed what would have been the go-head layup. But Minnesota knocked the offensive rebound out of bounds. On the in-bound pass. Carr was fouled by Nate Mason. Following a timeout, he hit both ends of a one-and-one.

Mason missed a long 3-point attempt at the other end and Carr hauled in the rebound to secure the victory.
