Penn State Men's Hockey Ranked No. 1

Penn State men's hockey ranked No. nationally for the first time in the program's history thanks to a weekend sweep of Michigan State.

Penn State's men's hockey team has been on a steady ascent of the national polls all year thanks to a 16-2-1 season record and 5-1-0 mark in Big Ten play.

Now, the Nittany Lions have reached the top postion with the No. 1 ranking in the USCHO poll, the first time the squad has held the top spot in its short history. The Lions are No. 2 in the USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine poll.

Penn State University

In the USCHO  poll PSU jumped from No. 4 to No. 1 after sweeping a double header against Michigan State with 5-2 and 5-3 victories this past weekend at home. Penn State received 30 first place votes in the poll and a total 964 points, 23 more points than No. 2 Denver with 941.

Two other Big Ten squads are in the polls with Minnesota at No. 7 and Ohio State at No. 11. Wisconsin is also receiving votes.

The Lions stay at home for their next contest against the No. 10 Buckeyes come for a pair of contests on Friday and Saturday at 7 pm in Pegula.
