Mike decided to head up to State College this past weekend to take in his first Penn State football game.
"It was great," Mike said. "I finally met Coach Joe Paterno in person, so I got to talk to him a little bit. I talked to all the coaches and met a few players who have committed there too, so it was great."
Wyatt Bowman, Dan Lawlor, Greg Harrison and Jed Hill were the other PSU verbal commitments Lucian met in person on Saturday. He has been communicating with other PSU-bound players via Instant Messenger for some time now.
Did the coaches talk to him more specifically about what position he'll start out playing at Penn State?
"It looks like I'm going to definitely play defensive tackle. Coach [Larry] Johnson said that this year they didn't really have any big defensive tackles, so they had to take some ends and beef 'em up a little bit and stick them down inside, but they're still not all that big they said. I think he said his biggest d-tackle was about 272. He said that I'm going to have a really good shot to get some time inside. So, it looks like I'll be playing defensive tackle which is great because that's what I wanted to play."
Mike, who is currently 6'3" and 255 pounds, will play on both sides of the ball during his senior season which starts this Friday.
"Right now, I'm playing tight-end on offense. On defense, I'm working at defensive tackle and defensive-end."
Despite the commitment to PSU, other schools have maintained contact.
"Actually, after I committed, the mail picked up a lot from some schools. I'm getting like 3 or 4 letters a day from Ohio State and West Virginia. When I went up there (Penn State) on Saturday, they told me that a lot of schools were going to call me."
Mike is not wavering and is glad to have his decision made and be able to focus on his senior season.
"A lot of people have been telling me I look a lot better this year because all the pressure's off. My coaches and all my teammates say I look real good this year in practice and scrimmages."
Lucian will return to Penn State this weekend to watch the Nittany Lions take on Boston College.
"I'm real happy with [my decision]. It was great going up to the game. I think there was like 101,000 fans just packed in. Just getting up there and seeing it, I mean I've never been to a football game like that. To know that I'm going to experience all that is just unbelievable. I can't wait."
