Penn State continued its run of snatching up talent in central Pennsylvania by getting the verbal commitment of Cumberland Valley athlete Charlie Katshir Thursday. Katshir, who also had offers from Boston College, Rutgers, Pitt and Virginia, made the announcement via Twitter:
Katshir is the first linebacker prospect to commit in the 2018 class and the eighth prospect overall to commit.
Cleezy's Quick Take
Katshir has been one of he best safeties in Pennsylvania and in the East Region over the past couple of years. He is expected to be converted to linebacker once he gets to Penn State. Katshir has the athleticism and sure-tackling ability to make a smooth transition to linebacker at the next level. Of course, he will need to put on some weight. A year in Penn State's strength training program should take care of that. Kathsir will be an every-down linebacker for Penn State due to the fact that he already has tremendous pass coverage skills.
Brian Dohn's Quick Take
Katshir runs well and you can see it in his ability to get to the sideline in pass coverage. He moves well laterally, and that will be an asset as he shifts to linebacker at the college level.
A few key pieces in his development will be in using his hands more, and more quickly, to get off blocks since the play comes so much quicker at the linebacker spot, and improving his tackling technique. He sometimes dives into a tackle with his shoulder rather than wrapping up the ball carrier.
