Penn State landed another top linebacker from the state of Pennsylvania earlier today as they received a verbal commitment from 2018 three-star linebacker Nick Tarburton. Tarburton took to Twitter to share the news:
Tarburton is the third linebacker to commit to Penn State's 2018 class and is the third player to commit to the Nittany Lions this month. Tarburton is being recruited for the middle linebacker position. Tarburton also had offers from Maryland, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Syracuse.
Coach Cleezy's Breakdown
Standing at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds, Tarburton is an imposing figure on the football field. On the high school level, his size, physicality and athleticism makes it almost impossible to stop him from being a disruptive force on the defensive side of the ball. Tarburton is very active and causes havoc all around the field. Tarburton explodes on contact and usually knocks opposing ball carriers backwards. The three-star middle linebacker is usually in the right place at the right time due to his instincts and ability to quickly read and diagnose where the ball is going.
Tarburton's length allows him to easily cover the field sideline-to-sideline. With his frame, Tarburton would seemingly be a candidate to be converted to the defensive end position at the next level. You really can't gauge his pass coverage skills by watching his tape but that's not a negative. He's not being asked to cover running backs due to his great pass rushing skills from either the middle or outside linebacker positions. We'll be able to get a better idea of his pass coverage skills as he goes on the camp circuit during the upcoming months.
Assuming that he's kept at the linebacker position, Penn State has added even more depth in the future with Tarburton.
