The Penn State men's hockey team put together a weekend sweep of the No. 17 Wisconsin Badgers on the road. The No. 10 Nittany Lions advanced to 18-6-2 on the season and 7-4-1 in conference play with the two weekend victories. Penn State put together a 6-3 win in the series opener and grabbed a 5-2 victory in the second game.
With the two wins the Nittany Lions have now won 10 of their last 11 matchups against the Badgers.
In the first win, Penn State was actually outshot by Wisconsin 33 to 31, but managed to grab a pair of goals in each of the periods with David Goodwin scoring a pair of goals in the contest. The win gave coach Guy Gadowsky his 250 career victory.
In the second clash Penn State outshot the Badgers 44 to 29 with freshmen Nate Sucese and Denis Smitnov each netting two goals.
Next up, Penn State faces No. 5 Minnesota with a pair of contests in Happy Valley, the first at 6:30 pm on Friday, February 17 and the second on Saturday, February 18 at 8 pm. Both games will be broadcast nationall on Big Ten Network.
